I am really intrigued by Amish stories about characters who grew up as Amish, but decide to leave the Amish life when he or she is older. That is the case with the main male character in Crime Scene Witness, Micah Bender. Micah is a Deputy Marshall in Ohio. He is investigating the murder of a cop; Micah believes that the female cop is the victim of a serial killer who is killing women in the criminal justice system. When he arrives at the scene of the crime, crime scene cleaner Lissa Page is attacked and Micah worries Lissa is the next victim.
They go through various safe houses, but Lissa is still found. Micah makes the drastic decision to have her hide out in his Amish family’s house. While Micah is protecting Lissa and her young daughter, Shelby, Micah starts to fall in love with her. Lissa develops feelings for Micah as well. But before they can even think about a possible future together, they have to be one step ahead of a dangerous serial killer.
I really enjoyed this novel. It had some interesting developments that I was not expecting. I especially like the fact that Micah has a close relationship with his family despite him leaving the Amish when he was younger. Also, another interesting component is that Lissa is deaf, which makes it challenging for her when at times the battery charge on her implants runs low. This is Book #15 of the Amish Country Justice series. Each book can stand independently, but it is part of an overall story arch. Book #16 is Hidden Amish Target.
