State: South Carolina
Meet Theodosia Browning, owner of Indigo Tea Shop. She has an interesting back story. After graduating college studying literature, she entered the marketing/advertising industry. Feeling overwhelmed with the job and that she was lacking something in her life, she leaves the profession and starts her own tea shop in Charleston. In the first installment of the Tea Shop Mysteries, she is putting on an event for the community. To her horror, though, one of the attendees, a well-known real estate developer, dies while drinking tea. Worried about how this will effect business and to help clear an employee’s friend, Theo (how she is referred to by her friends) is determined to find the murderer, even if it puts her life in danger.
I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. I enjoyed the author’s detail of describing Charleston and the surrounding community. Theo is a very likeable character and resourceful. I like how she admits that her career change was good for her soul. I always admire writers who are willing to give a spiritual dimension to a character. The mystery was not predictable and kept me guessing to the end. I look forward to the next installment.
