Upon arriving at a castle to receive the book Oor Wullie from a customer to sell at the bookshop she works at, Delaney finds the dead body of the customer. This leads to a complex mystery involving Delaney’s boss’ (Edwin) past, including a secret University society. Delaney knows that Edwin is hiding something, but she is determined to reach the truth, no matter what it reveals in order to bring a killer to prison.
Meanwhile, Delaney’s relationship with Tom, the pub-owner across the street, is progressing nicely. I like that he gives her the independence to investigate, but the reader can tell he is worried about her safety. The reader is introduced to Tom’s father who is a research librarian at the University of Edinburgh. Delaney asks for his help regarding the secret society on campus that is connected to the murder and her boss. I like the relationship Delaney has with Tom’s father. She feels guilty asking for his help. She does not want to use him or take him for granted showing how much she cares for him.
Overall, this was an interesting mystery. I am really enjoying reading this series. It has a wonderful supporting cast of characters. It is not just about solving mysteries; it is also about the relationships Delaney forms in this new life she has set up for herself in a foreign country.
Rating: 5/5
Please note that the next installment (2.5) is a mini-mystery set around Christmas time. I will read this next. Typically, though, I like to read an installment once a month since I have other series I am reading. I will read Book 3 in June.
